Know How: A Bold Display Font for Handmade Creations

I was designing a set of candle labels the other day, and I knew right away that the text needed to stand out. The product was simple—natural soy candles with lavender essential oil—but the packaging had to feel special. That’s when I reached for Know How, a display font that immediately brought a sense of grandeur and confidence to my design.

Know How is more than just a font—it’s a statement. With its commanding presence and elegant curves, it feels like it belongs on anything that needs to make an impression. I used it on the front label of my lavender candle, and the result was something I couldn’t have imagined without this typeface. It added a touch of sophistication and made the product feel more premium.

What Makes Know How Unique?

As someone who makes a living from handmade products, I know how important typography can be. Know How has a distinct personality—bold yet refined, imposing yet inviting. Its thick strokes and clean lines give it a modern feel, while the subtle flourishes add a classic charm. It works well for short phrases, names, and titles, which are perfect for product labels, greeting cards, and invitations.

I’ve tested it on everything from birthday invitations to farmhouse-style signs. Each time, it brought a level of visual interest that elevated the overall design. It’s especially great for display use, where you want your message to be noticed instantly.

Using Know How in Real Projects

One of my favorite uses for Know How has been on wedding invitations. I paired it with a clean sans serif font for the body text, and the contrast made the whole piece feel balanced and professional. The main title stood out beautifully, and guests commented on how striking the design was.

It’s also worked wonders on printable wall art. I created a set of seasonal quotes for digital downloads, and using Know How gave each one a bold, artistic flair. Customers loved how they looked framed in their homes, and I received several requests for custom designs using the same font.

For product tags and boutique packaging, Know How helped create a consistent brand identity. I used it across all my product labels, and it made my shop feel more cohesive. Customers began to recognize the font as part of my brand, which increased their trust and engagement.

Design Tips for Makers

If you're planning to use Know How on small stickers or product labels, keep in mind that readability is key. While the font is bold and eye-catching, it may not be ideal for long paragraphs of text. Instead, use it for short, impactful messages such as product names, taglines, or decorative wording.

When working with cutting machines like Cricut or Silhouette, test your designs on paper first to ensure the font cuts cleanly. Sometimes, the thickness of the strokes can affect how well the font prints or cuts, especially on smaller scales.

Font pairing is another important consideration. I often pair Know How with a clean sans serif font like Helvetica or Arial for body text. This combination creates a nice balance between bold and minimal, which is especially useful for invitations, stationery, and packaging.

Choosing the Right Styles and Formats

Before finalizing any project, I always check the included styles, alternates, ligatures, and swashes in the font. Know How offers a range of weights and variations that can be used creatively depending on the project. For commercial use, it’s essential to confirm that the font includes proper licensing for physical products, templates, printables, SVG-style designs, or digital downloads.

I also pay attention to file formats and multilingual support. If you’re creating global products or digital assets, having a font that supports multiple languages can be a huge advantage. It ensures that your designs remain versatile and accessible to a wider audience.

Bringing Know How to Life

Whether you're making mugs, tote bags, or seasonal gift tags, Know How adds a touch of creativity and professionalism to your work. I’ve used it on everything from planner pages to shop signage, and each time it helped bring my vision to life in a way that felt both personal and polished.

As a maker, I know that every detail matters. From the fonts we choose to the colors we use, everything contributes to the final product. Know How has become a staple in my creative toolkit, and I can't imagine crafting without it. It’s not just a font—it's a powerful tool that helps us tell our stories through design.
